When was Spotflux founded?



Spotflux officially launched in March 2012 at SXSW. Co-founders Chris Naegelin and Dean Mekkawy were high school friends and techies during the 1990’s when the internet was a much friendlier place. In 2011, after working in the “real world” for almost a decade, Dean and Chris decided that it was time to bring back some sanity to the internet and give people a choice when it comes to privacy online. Starting with just a few servers in Chris’s basement, Spotflux was born, and the two of them set off to build a beta client that amassed over 100,000 users in just a few months. Today, Spotflux is a lean venture backed startup that continues to grow at exponential rates as people seek to reclaim their privacy online.

Like the early days of Twitter, Facebook, and Dropbox, we are in the process of making major improvements and once we’ve developed some really cool new features we will make them available for purchase.

We understand that earning your trust is not easy. For starters we are open about our privacy policy, we don’t have any acronyms associated with our name and we publish our street address on the front page of our website. Most importantly, ask us a question on twitter or facebook and we’ll do our best to respond. We believe in being open and honest, and that your trust should be earned, not expected.

No. While we do tunnel and encrypt your internet traffic, once it reaches our cloud we conduct millions of real-time and automated calculations to remove tracking cookies, malicious viruses, and other nasty things from your internet connection. We're developing some really interesting technology to enhance your privacy and security online.
